Auditions
Auditions can be scary…
Take a breath. It’s not that bad.
Here at T.C.L. we want you to feel prepared. When auditioning for a play you do not need to memorize anything! Sides will be provided, and you will do cold readings in a room with the others who are auditioning. If something (like dyslexia) would make a cold read really difficult, then feel free to reach out and prepare a monologue.
For musicals we expect: a cold read, 32 measures (about a minute and a half) of a song, and either a movement or dance audition (which will be lead by the choreographer). It’s okay if your chunk of song is shorter than 32 measures, but please try to avoid going over. You can also sing a cappella or you can bring in a recording of a backing track. The song and cold read will be privately done with the director/music director, while dance will be done in groups.
The director might also stop you mid-read or mid-song. It doesn’t mean you aren’t doing well, it just means the director feels like they have a good grasp on what you might bring to the show!
IMPORTANT:
At Theatre CamilleLynne we require not only an audition sheet, but a contract that must be signed by a parent/guardian. The contract basically states that you won’t up and vanish on a spontaneous trip or miss a rehearsal you’re needed at for a concert, job, friend hangout, or what have you. Essentially, no last minute no-shows.
We understand that family trips and things are important. All we request is that you give the director notice ON YOUR AUDITION FORM. If you aren’t sure of the exact dates, you can write in “will be gone during Christmas break sometime” or something of that sort and once you know the days then we can adjust.
The dates that can not be missed are dress rehearsal and, obviously, the show dates.
Audition forms will be provided at auditions for you to fill out. Contracts need to be turned in during the audition, and are provided on the left. They can be emailed right before, or turned in as a physical copy day of.

ABOUT: The story concerns a mystery surrounding the death of a neighbour's dog that is investigated by young Christopher Boone, who is autistic, and his relationships with his parents and school mentor.
